When a pathogenic bacterium approaches, the phage can recognize membrane specific proteins. This allows it to anchor itself and generate the infection.

A
We have a dynamic and collaborative laboratory, thanks to its infrastructure and state-of-the-art equipment.
At PhageLab® we develop customized projects, according to the problem that each client needs to solve. We currently work with large production companies in the Poultry, Swine, Livestock and Aquaculture industries, both in Chile and around the world.
1
We intervene in the industrial process to identify and characterize bacteria of interest, using microbiology tools, genomics and bioinformatics.
2
We search for, isolate, characterize and sequence the appropriate bacteriophages to eliminate the bacteria of interest.
3
We implement bacteriophage production processes in cGMP quality and adapt the product according to the customer’s needs and in compliance with the corresponding sanitary regulations.
The adherence complex IG-GLICAN allows our phages to accompany the intestinal transit, preventing pathogenic bacteria from colonizing the environment. Here’s how they do it.
A
When a pathogenic bacterium approaches, the phage can recognize membrane specific proteins. This allows it to anchor itself and generate the infection.
B
The phage enters its genetic material and uses all its replicative machinery. It introduces itself to the bacteria and multiplies, creating various copies.
C
Once replicated, the phages secrete enzymes which destabilize the bacterial membrane causing its lysis, releasing multiple copies of phages ready to infect other pathogens and repeat the process.
